Manchester Scientist is the first recipient of multi-million pound Kennedy Trust award for rheumatic disease research

An inflammation researcher at The University of Manchester is set to establish a world-class research program that aims to shed new light on rheumatoid arthritis, after becoming the first ever awardee of a £2.5 million Kennedy Trust Senior Fellowship.

Professor David Felson awarded international prize honouring outstanding innovative research in rheumatology

Congratulations to Professor David Felson, Programme Lead in the BRC’s Musculoskeletal Theme, who was awarded the prestigious Carol-Nachman Prize for rheumatology at a recent awards ceremony in Germany.

Manchester BRC and CRF set to benefit from a prestigious Wellcome Trust award for public engagement

The Public Programmes Team, which leads on PPIE within the BRC and CRF, has secured a five year award from the Wellcome Trust Sustaining Excellence grant scheme following a rigorous and by invitation only review process.

Major European Commission grant to boost researchers’ quest for scanning techniques to improve arthritis and cancer drug safety

Manchester is part of a new consortium which will develop new CT and MRI scan techniques and biomarkers to look at the accumulation of compounds in the body caused by drugs and the harm they may cause – potentially improving patients’ safety and the development of new treatments.

Trial of new triple inhaler shows 20% reduction in COPD flare-ups

Manchester research has shown flare-ups in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the UK’s fourth leading cause of death, can be reduced by 20% by a combined triple inhaler.
