NIHR Manchester BRC seeking people and patients to shape our research

The NIHR Manchester BRC has been busy this summer conducting scoping work to inform an ambitious, five year patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) strategy. Delivering exemplary PPIE across Greater Manchester, the strategy will serve both the BRC and the NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility (CRF).

Researchers across the BRC are working closely with The Public Programmes Team, a not-for-profit PPIE specialist team based at Central Manchester Hospitals, to map out current PPIE activities, stakeholders and future ambitions. A PPIE Working Group has been established which includes representation from each BRC research theme in the form of Public Programmes Project Managers and Academic PPIE Leads.

Our priority within the next few years is to work with large numbers of contributors reflecting Greater Manchester’s vibrant and varied communities, who can offer invaluable insights we wouldn’t otherwise know about.

The next steps for our PPIE work include identifying people and patients who would like to contribute their ideas, opinions and lived experiences to inform and shape our research.

Leah Holmes, Co-Director of The Public Programmes Team, which leads PPIE for the BRC and CRF, explains:

“Involving people and patients is central to our research. Our priority within the next few years is to work with large numbers of contributors reflecting Greater Manchester’s vibrant and varied communities, who can offer invaluable insights we wouldn’t otherwise know about.

We are setting up involvement groups covering the main research themes, and there are also ongoing opportunities to take part online, or work with us on creative projects. An exciting strand of our work will be delivered in local communities across Greater Manchester, allowing us to work in new ways, being much more driven by the ideas and needs expressed by the communities and groups we work with.”

Time and expenses are recompensed and no experience is necessary.
