Our Research:

Cancer Advanced Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is the most important non-surgical treatment, received by 50 – 60% of cancer patients. We translate experimental medicine into treatments and change practice for patient benefit, improving outcomes and survival rates.

Our research shapes national and international radiotherapy guidelines. Our aim is to enhance and personalise advanced radiotherapy techniques to increase survival rates whilst reducing side effects.

The Advanced Radiotherapy Theme contains the following five programmes:

  • Precision radiotherapy using ‘big data’ infrastructure
  • Immune response to radiotherapy
  • Proton therapy
  • Hypoxia biomarkers for targeted treatments with radiotherapy
  • MR linac and functional imaging adaptation
