These placement opportunities are open to:
- NHS healthcare professionals working in the NIHR Manchester BRC’s partner NHS Trusts, including clinical or biomedical scientists
- Manchester BRC postdoctoral researchers and PhD students interested in diagnostics and translational research
- Manchester BRC project managers
Placement opportunities
Ideal for clinical, genetics or research scientists with molecular biology experience. Join the Product Development team working on next-gen diagnostic assays using RT-PCR, dPCR and NGS. This placement would be full time and based at the QIAGEN Manchester site.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct lab studies to support development of new products
- Apply techniques: DNA/RNA extraction, RT-PCR, dPCR, NGS, gel electrophoresis
- Ensure compliance with quality/regulatory standards
- Analyse and present results
- Support lab safety and efficiency
- Assist maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment
Requirements:
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques
- Analytical and detail-focused
- Organised, self-motivated, and collaborative
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word

Ideal for professionals experienced with R, SAS, or similar statistical tools. Work with QIAGEN’s expert team on real-world oncology and infectious disease data to support diagnostic development. This placement would be full time and based at the QIAGEN Manchester site.
Key responsibilities:
- Contribute to real-world data analyses
- Program statistical models (e.g., in R, SAS)
- Assist with study design, protocols, and statistical reports
- Share and develop your expertise through an independent project
Requirements:
- Solid understanding of statistical concepts
- Proficient in statistical software
- Analytical thinker and problem-solver
- Self-starter with willingness to learn

Ideal for those with a background in oncology/infectious disease and literature analysis. Support clinical performance evaluations and assist in literature reviews and documentation for in vitro diagnostic products. This placement would be full time and based remotely with the opportunity to visit the QIAGEN Manchester site.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform literature reviews and evaluations
- Support clinical performance studies and documentation
- Collaborate with clinical study leads and wider clinical affairs team
Requirements:
- Knowledge in oncology and/or infectious diseases
- Skilled in conducting and analysing literature reviews
- Attention to detail, organised, and motivated

This placement would be full time and based remotely with the opportunity to visit the QIAGEN Manchester site.
Key responsibilities:
- Support Project Management team members with all aspects of their day-to-day activities – organisational, meeting support, project data reporting
- Support Project Management organisation with maintenance of key project data and improvement initiatives
Requirements:
- Strong organisation skills

- Planning and problem solving
- Positive attitude and self-motivated

Eligibility
These placement opportunities are open to:
- NHS healthcare professionals working in the NIHR Manchester BRC’s partner NHS Trusts, including clinical or biomedical scientists
- Manchester BRC postdoctoral researchers and PhD students interested in diagnostics and translational research
- Manchester BRC project managers
Applicants must have approval from their line manager/supervisor to apply, and successful candidates must be able to begin their placement on the 19 January 2026.
To support the release of employees for the duration of the 12-week placement, employers will receive backfill funding of up to £6,000 per participant, based on the employee’s current salary.
PhD students may either integrate the placement into their PhD programme, with the agreement of their supervisor, or take a formal study interruption for its duration. In both cases, they will continue to receive their stipend. If a study interruption is taken, the 12-week period will be added to the end of their PhD programme.
