This scheme is offered in partnership with the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).

Eligibility

These placement opportunities are open to:

  • NHS healthcare professionals working in the NIHR Manchester BRC’s partner NHS Trusts, including clinical or biomedical scientists
  • Manchester BRC postdoctoral researchers and PhD students interested in diagnostics and translational research
  • Manchester BRC project managers

Applicants must have approval from their line manager/supervisor to apply.

To support the release of employees for the duration of the 12-week placement, employers will receive backfill funding of up to £6,000 per participant, based on the employee’s current salary.

PhD students may either integrate the placement into their PhD programme, with the agreement of their supervisor, or take a formal study interruption for its duration. In both cases, they will continue to receive their stipend.  If a study interruption is taken, the 12-week period will be added to the end of their PhD programme.
