Double honours for Professor Jørgen Vestbo

BRC Respiratory Theme Lead Professor Jørgen Vestbo has received two prestigious awards.

Professor Vestbo has been named as The University of Manchester Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health’s Researcher of the Year 2018. He was also invited to join the COPD Hall of Fame (a lifetime achievement) award made to individuals for outstanding contributions in this field.

On his Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health’s Researcher of the Year 2018 award Professor Vestbo said: “Our Faculty is so strong that for me, this is one of the awards I am most proud to receive. I am also very grateful to my colleagues in respiratory medicine for the collaboration and support that has had a major impact on my work.”

Professor Vestbo joined the Annual Conference’s ‘Hall of Fame’ when he was presented with the award by friend and colleague, Professor Bart Celli of Harvard University.

I am very happy to receive this award. My COPD research is aimed at bridging the gap between clinical research and epidemiology. Hopefully this award is a signal that translational research does not stop at the bedside – it should be taken all the way out to population health.
