Training Event and Seminar Series

The NIHR Manchester BRC hosts regular training events, including monthly seminars, designed to share scientific ideas, foster collaboration, and build capacity in experimental medicine. These events provide invaluable opportunities to educate, inspire, and promote partnerships that align with our mission to drive health improvements and lasting change.

Who should attend?

Our training events are open to:

  • Researchers, students, fellows, technical and operations staff, and healthcare professionals.
  • Contributors across The University of Manchester and NHS Partner Organisations, and NIHR Infrastructure.
  • Regional and national collaborators, including the Northern BRC Network.

Participation is encouraged across all levels, whether as a presenter or attendee, to support shared learning and collaboration.

Goals of the training series

  • Showcase Manchester BRC Research: Highlight the breadth of experimental medicine research and stimulate cross-disciplinary discussions.
  • Develop Core Insights: Explore key themes such as innovation, digital advancements, patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE), and Team Science.
  • Promote the BRC Mission: Raise awareness of our goals and progress across partners and the wider community.
  • Foster Engagement: Create a diverse learning community and share development opportunities with staff, students, patients, and public stakeholders.

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Awareness Sessions – Thursday 23 January and Monday 29 September 2025
    An overview of the Manchester BRC and CRF EDI strategy, with a focus on supporting inclusive career progression across the workforce.
  • UK Biobank Showcase Event – Thursday 30 January 2025
    Hosted by The University of Manchester in collaboration with Manchester BRC to raise awareness of the UK Biobank and opportunities for research engagement.
  • Early Career Researchers in Mental Health Event – Tuesday 4 March 2025
    A dedicated forum for early career researchers to share ideas, network, and explore career pathways in mental health research.
  • Sustainability Awareness Session – Tuesday 11 March 2025
    An interactive session highlighting practical approaches to promoting sustainability in research and the workplace.
  • Northern BRC Conference: Pioneering Future Leaders – Tuesday 6 May 2025
    The annual Northern BRC Conference, hosted by Manchester BRC, featuring leadership development sessions and a Q&A panel with senior BRC leaders sharing career insights.
  • Healthcare Professional Showcase Event – Thursday 12 June 2025
    A celebratory event recognising the vital contributions of healthcare professionals across Manchester BRC.
  • Essential Clinical Trials Training Series (Session 1 & 2) – Wednesday 25 June & Thursday 23 October 2025
    An introductory session covering the fundamentals of clinical research, including clinical trial design, differences between interventional and observational research, and early- and late-phase studies.
  • Greater Manchester NIHR Women’s Health Showcase – Thursday 3 July 2025                                                                      A showcase highlighting the impactful research focused on improving health outcomes for women across GM.
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion – Goals, Objectives and Appraisals – Monday 29 September 2025
    A focus on setting personal EDI goals and objectives as an important part of the appraisal process.
  • PhD Showcase Event – Thursday 8 October 2025
    An event celebrating the achievements and research contributions of Manchester BRC PhD students.
  • Children’s Research Showcase Event – Monday 3 November 2025
    A showcase highlighting impactful research focused on improving health outcomes for children across the BRC.
  • NIHR Impact Workshop – Tuesday 18 November 2025                                                                                                                            Focused on how to develop compelling, evidence-based impact case studies aligned with updated NIHR guidance.

Upcoming Events in 2026

  • Methods for Research Inclusion, Workforce and Equity Impact  – Monday 26 January 2026 , 10:00 – 12:00      The Manchester BRC and CRF Inclusive Research Methods and EDI teams will deliver an online training session exploring NIHR funding requirements, inclusive research methods, and equity impact. The session will highlight available EDI tools, including the Maturity Matrix, alongside practical case studies. Open to researchers, programme managers, clinicians, students, and principal investigators at all career stages.
