Diagnosing paediatric auditory deficits

How can we improve diagnosing auditory deficits in children?

We believe that new technologies using objective markers of early cochlear and neural deficits and automated measurements techniques, will transform diagnosis of children with hearing and communication impairments.

We will:

  • Use our expertise in paediatric audiology and child language assessment, together with electrophysiological techniques from our adult work, to develop new diagnostic tests of neuropathy and determine the extent to which neural deficits underlie Specific Language Impairment and Auditory Processing Disorders in children
  • Develop and validate eye and head tracking tests for sound detection and sound discrimination in infants with hearing loss and other disabilities
