Public and patient involvement and engagement

Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement is embedded within the dermatology theme. For many years dermatology researchers have worked with patients to develop relevant research questions and ensure effective dissemination of study results.

  • Psoriasis Shout Out began in 2014, with a week-long festival of public facing activities developed alongside patients to encourage people to ‘Shout Out’ about psoriasis and what it means to them. This initiative has gone from strength to strength, with the 2016 ‘Shout Out’ breaking new ground, involving other UK and international centres, reaching out to more people with psoriasis than ever before. The initiative aims to get people talking about psoriasis and to bring patients together with professionals working in the field of psoriasis management and research.
  • The photodermatoses group have Public and Patient Involvement relating to both beneficial and hazardous effects of sunlight. We connect nationally and locally, including regular events with the patient organisation British Porphyria Association, and are in set-up phase of a patient association for photosensitivity disorders.
