Our Research: Dermatology

Public and patient involvement and engagement

Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement is embedded within the dermatology theme. For many years dermatology researchers have worked with patients to develop relevant research questions and ensure effective dissemination of study results.

Key achievements of our PPIE activities include:

  • The biennial Psoriasis Shout Out® roadshow that brings clinicians, researchers, patients and the public together for a series of nationwide events to learn more about Psoriasis
  • The establishment of a patient advisory panel for wound healing
  • Numerous events such as the “All About Alopecia” day that brought researchers, patients and the public together to explore Alopecia and its impact; and
  • The dissemination of information through patient associations (Alopecia UK, British Porphyria Association)

We work closely with Vocal to ensure patients and the public are connected with Dermatology research in a meaningful, accessible and inclusive way.

Our overarching aim is to engage with new audiences, to increase diversity and inclusion in our PPIE and to help address health inequalities across the North West.

Coming soon in 2022: the Dermatology Research User Network – have your say in research. If you are an adult affected by psoriasis, alopecia, photodermatoses, chronic wounds or have in interest in skin ageing, then you could join the Research User Network and help to shape new research into diagnoses and treatments.
